Description

Platinum-selling recording artists, Sister Hazel, will release their first new album in five years, Lighter In The Dark, February 19, 2016. The long-awaited 14-track collection, produced by noted Nashville producer Chip Matthews, represents the band s longstanding ties to Music City, which date back to 2005 and include collaborations with all-star songwriters Lee Brice, Luke Laird, and Hillary Lindsey. As their lucky 13th album release, it also ties together the many threads that make up the band s tapestry: the restless, road-hungry rush of Fall Off The Map and Run Highway Run, the deep-country dive of Prettiest Girl At The Dance, and the sentiment and swagger of Take It With Me. You can t miss Darius Rucker s voice on Karaoke Song, too. The band embraces their roots and Florida music influences wholeheartedly. Each member of the group is involved in writing and performing their songs and the result is a culmination of 20 years of friendship and musical sentiments. Production credits for Lighter In The Dark include Chip Matthews; Thoroughbred Heart produced by Ryan Newell, and Ten Candle Days produced by Ryan Newell and Jett Beres.

When I bought "Lighter in the Dark" I played it all the way through, without stopping, for a first impression. I do this for all albums I buy. This is really a different Sister Hazel album that those in the past, and not what I expected. There have been great Sister Hazel albums in the past, and this one joins the list. There are not any filler songs on this album. All the tracks are very good, and some are destined to be on play lists for years to come.On first impression, three songs in particular spoke to me as great songs should: "Something to Believe In," "Take It With Me," and "Prettiest Girl at the Dance," in playlist order. I don't know which of them I like best at the moment, and everyone that listens to the album will have their favorites, but those three songs spoke to different parts of me. Of course, that's what great albums do. This dilemma is best resolved by putting an album on repeat and letting it play. This is the kind of album you can do that with.Sister Hazel has had some wonderful albums in the past, and some, that all long-lived bands experience, that perhaps were not what they thought they should be. I know that some Sister Hazel fans will find this album a really big departure from what they have grown to expect from a Sister Hazel album. After listening to this album all the way through, six times over two days, I am comfortable saying that this is the greatest Sister Hazel album to date. It was totally unexpected in style, but totally Sister Hazel. It's one of the few full length albums that I keep on my phone, and the only one that is not a greatest hits kind of album. It is stellar.Sister Hazel is a real band, with the original members, creating real music, sounding as good live as they do in the studio, and still doing so for more than 20 years. They are in an exclusive club, and this album speaks volumes about a band called Sister Hazel, that like a wine, has come of age, and is among one of the best in the world.
