The Carpathians (Dark) Series:(First 10 titles in the series listed here)Dark PrinceDark DesireDark GoldDark MagicDark ChallengeDark FireDark LegendDark GuardianDark MelodyDark DestinyNever call them vampires... These men and women are original Carpathians known as "People of the Earth". They need to feed on blood like vampires do, but they never feed to the point of causing the "donor's" death. If a Carpathian takes so much blood that the donor dies, the Carp's soul is destroyed. He/ She is now one of the undead... A vampire.Carpathians hunt and kill vampires to preserve the human race. Sadly, the Carpathian race itself is slowly dying out. There are very few women of their kind left. The only babies being born are males. Who will bare future generations? The only hope for the Carpathians lies in the males' ability to protect their females and young. Their leader, Prince Mikhail, carries the weight of the race upon his shoulders. Somehow, the People of the Earth must find a way to replenish their species.Prince Mikhail has given up hope. A Carpathian male knows no joy, cannot even see in color, until he finds his true mate. After centuries of living in loneliness, he is ready to walk out into the sun and end his life. His greatest regret is having failed his people. Just as he makes his decision to die, a voice begins speaking to him telepathically. It is a human female's voice, reaching out to let him know he is not alone. Mikhail is amazed that this human can penetrate his powerful Carpathian mind. Whomever she is, she is obviously someone very special. He can't rest until he tracks her and sees her in person. As he spies her through her hotel window, Mikhail is shocked when he realizes that he can see the color of her blue eyes.Raven has come to the Carpathian mountains to escape the torment of her life in the USA. The American government has been using her to track down murders. In order to track them, she must enter their depraved minds. Their madness has taken it's tole on Raven. While preparing for bed in her hotel room, Raven telepathically hears a man cry out in utter anguish. She can sense that his despair is so great, he is ready to end his life. She reaches out to him in hope of changing his mind. She doesn't realize that the man is not human. Once she has made the connection with him, he will not leave her alone. He is determined to meet her. When Mikhail gets Raven into his home, he knows he will never let her go. She has given him hope for the future. More importantly, she has given his people hope as well. Perhaps this very powerful human woman can produce the female young that will begin the repopulation of their race. Raven is not sure she is cut out to be a part of the Carpathian world. The humans living in the area believe the Carpathians are nothing more than evil vampires. Slayers have heard that the prince has found a way to repopulate his race. They make a plan to steal Raven from Mikhail. They will use her as bate to slay him as he comes to rescue her. They don't realize that, to the Carpathians, taking her was the same as signing their death warrant.I love the Carpathian men. They are dominant, but they are also totally enamored of their women. Women and children are more precious to these men than anything on earth. Most of their dominating behavior occurs when it is necessary in order to save a females life. The men suffer through life without emotion, totally empty inside, lives literally void of color, until they meet their mate. Many get so lost in their despair, they turn vampire to end the pain. They may be alpha, but they are completely lost without their women.Feehan's love scenes burn the pages. There were a few more of them than necessary, but each of them was scorching. Her writing also had plenty of action to keep the readers interest. She used this book as a means for introducing several yummy Carpathian men for future stories. I've learned that when it comes to Carpathian males, "you can't have just one". I'm in line for seconds. If you'd like to read the whole series, here are the next few to get you started:
