For serious film lovers especially, there are a multitude of categories and sub categories films fall into. For example, there is the "bad movie" category, and the "so bad, it's good" category. And there are of course certain types of films people hate regardless of their quality. I read a review on the back of a DVD of a different movie recently and it described that movie something like this, "the type of flawed gem horror fans love to seek out." I believe that is a pretty good description of this movie. For this movie you could say that the "negatives" are: At times clunky dialog, some subtle issues of timing and tone. Lack of suspense at times, talky, etc.... It should be noted that these "negative" elements also add to this films charm. Sometimes an imperfect film seems more "real" and the actors are more relatable than to actors who get every line perfect and on que. The good: The directors were really going for a sort of art film in terms of camera shots, angles, as well as the lighting. You get the sense they sere thinking Italian gaillo film at times. Also, the location in Spain is very realized and the film takes you to a far away land with unfamiliar land marks etc... I love all the actors involved. The Non-CGI zombie/dead guy holds up to, and surpasses, todays special effects. The music is also excellent. This is a movie that I did not grow up with and had not even heard of til recently, but I am very happy to own. I will watch it repeatedly. Sometimes you just want a movie to take you on a journey and not have an explosion every two seconds. I like to say some movies have "air" in them, or in other words, they "breath" and give you time to take everything in. This often makes them more atmospheric and you feel like you are going on a journey with the characters rather than just being spoon fed everything. Thank You to the folks who lovingly transferred this to Blu-Ray and made it available once again."All Hail the Lion of Judah...….and Live!"
