My Review:This book has been on my radar for AGES. I knew I would probably like it because I always enjoy Lisa Henry's writing, but something about the sci fi story line kept me from grabbing it up. Finally, after another blogger went on and on about how good it was, I bought it. And yes, I absolutely 100% loved it. (I know...I shouldn't have waited so long!)Brady is 19 and a grunt through 3 years of his 10 year conscription on this spaceship where he is basically nothing, but a peon. He's developed a relationship with the ship's doctor who is pushing him to become a medic, but Brady dropped out of school when he was 12. He just wants to serve his time, get out, and go back home to his little sister and dying father.Cameron was a pilot who was the only person taken alive by the Faceless, an alien race who kill indiscriminately. He was attractive so the military and government have used his face as their recruiting boy. Among the troops, he's the horror story as they imagine the torture he went through after he was taken. So when a pod arrives onboard with Cameron inside of it, it sends shock waves. The crew don't know how to open the pod, but the doctor send for Brady to help, because he has a good bedside manner and is from the same area of the country as Cameron. The Doc figures Brady will be a friendly face when Cam wakes up.Well, when they open the pod, they do it wrong and Brady and Cameron end up physically tied together. Cam can only stay alive by basically suctioning the life off Brady. Brady's heartbeat regulates and keeps Cameron's heartbeat going.Cameron is gay and has spent the last four years on an alien space ship. He's starved for human touch and interaction. Brady is tied to him. They can't even shower apart without Cam collapsing. As a result things develop between them. They are almost one person. They share each others minds, including dreams and thoughts. It's impossible for them to not connect in every way. This is a dark book. Both men have been violated. Brady by one of his shipmates, Cam by the alien and they both share in those experiences through nightmares where they remember. But they also share the good and happy things...their families and good relationships. They are truly closer than anyone could normally become. I liked that and it really made the romance side of the story work for me.The hard part of the book is that there's no way for them to have a happy ending. I'm telling you, it's impossible and at about the 80-85% point I was regretting reading the book because I knew my heart was going to break with the outcome. I don't want to spoil it for you, but you all know...I don't do unhappy endings. I was THRILLED with the way this book ended. 110% perfect. I should have trusted my gut a long time ago and read this because it's an incredible book. I HIGHLY recommend it!
