Description

Auf 1000 Stck limitierte 2CD im Hardcover Buchformat, 48 Seiten Booklet, 2CDs inkl. 6 Bonus Tracks.

Ok, first off, sorry for the prelims and extraneous text but my belief is that if I am going to write a review, other people who are thinking of buying this, should know who is reviewing it so they can match up better and produce a better, more accurate result.PREAMBLE: (or PreRamble, in my case) I have been into electronic music since the late 1970's and have owned synths since the early 1980's. The best description of me is that I am a sound designer/Reaktor Synth designer/producer and song writer. I am tired of things I have already heard hundreds of times over. I hate anything with a wobble in it. I love groups that push the electronic sound barrier. If I can listen to a song for the first time and guess the next lyrics before they are sung, I don't want to hear any more.REVIEW: I put this CD in the car this morning on my way to work. I just started listening to Morning Star before I had to turn the car off. So my initial impression was so strong that I had to start my review now. (BTW: I usually do not write any reviews, ever. This is my 2nd, I believe) The sounds on this CD are quite unique and beckon another listen. Rider on a White Horse, well, this is NOT going to be on any Billboard (or is it Billbored?) top anything - and that is so comforting to me that you will never know. Wow what a different song. Covenant - great job. Apparently you guys don't care if the song(s) you write make it to the charts and that you just build them because YOU love them. Congratulations - I hope you make music until you die. The music is unusual and haunting and nifty and intriguing and not predictable or poppy. The sounds they craft and engineer are VERY precise and crisp or grinding and gritty. Headphones - I need my headphones - I have a pair of Focal Spirit Pro's at home and can't wait to re-listen to the CD in those cans. My guess is that the stereo field is heavily utilized as well. The songs themselves are good and so far "I close my eyes" falls into the rare category of "Liked it as soon as I heard it" and I already know that the other songs will quickly grow into solid listens as well. I had the same thing happen to the last 2 Covenant CD's (Leaving Babylon and Modern Ruin) - some immediately jumped at me, but as I listened to the whole CD again and again, the other songs became solid listens and now I like most every song on them (sans remixes). So I will update this review once I have listened to the rest of the CD and re-listened a few more times.INFLUENCES: I list this because if you listen to the same groups, this review may carry more weight (or not). Depeche Mode, OMD, Kraftwerk, De/Vision, Mesh, Mind in a Box, Edge of Dawn, Royksopp, Ladytron, Assemblage 23, Nitzer Ebb, Devo, Laurie Anderson, Xymox, Psychedelic Furs, Yaz, New Order, Acretongue, FatBoySlim, Stromkern, Apoptygma Berzerk, Ultravox
